Tourism Health and Wellness and Spa 2005
November 23rd - November 27th
This mission featured successful smaller niche spa operations that have quality facilities. The destination offered several smaller scale spas in operations such as B&B's and small Inns.
This mission took place in Victoria, Brentwood Bay, and Sidney, B.C. November 23 - 27, 2005.
It seemed that a lot of the different operations we visited have a collaborative approach instead of a cut-throat competitive approach in terms of relationship with others in the same business. From listening to the presenters and the different owners/managers, one of the keys in this industry is to use indigenous products
A good way to start the spa/health business is to first hire contract workers until the business has grown enough to make it possible to hire full time employees to give those services
In the event that an organization wishes to venture into new products or services, it is imperative that this business keeps its “old” product line or services menu active until the switch has occurred completely and is successful
There is a definite opportunity for all 4 provinces to collaborate in this industry in order to develop a strong Atlantic Canadian Health Wellness and Spa industry that would be competitive.
